As a child with an overactive imagination growing up in a small, North Carolina city, Lee Nisbet has always been drawn to the practice of art-making. In high school, she was the recipient of a National Gold Key art award, which was inspirational and encouraged her to continue her studies and secure a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of Art at East Carolina University. After graduation, she moved to the Triangle and is proud to call it home. While maintaining her art practice, she has championed and fostered art in the Triangle with her work in area arts institutions, including Artspace, the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, and the North Carolina Museum of Art.
During the COVID shutdown, photography became even more of a priority and allowed her some escape from the global worries of that era. Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, publications, and she is represented by Peel Gallery, Carrboro, NC.
